UMD Student Organization Information

Name: Students Promoting Awareness & Tolerance
A.K.A.: SPAT
Category: Political and Social Action
Purpose:

Our mission is to promote a multicultural environment on the UMD campus, as well as the surrounding Duluth community. One goal is to take hold of our education. We will do this by creating discussion panels that will be available to classrooms. The panels will focus on discriminatory issues of race & ethnicity. In this process members of the organization will not only be educating others, but also themselves. Another goal is to encourage higher learning to students in Urban areas. We intend to do this by attending local urban schools and emphasizing the benefits of higher education. Overall, our main goal is to create an atmosphere of self-respect, acceptance, and tolerance on the UMD campus.
